Buddleja alternifolia (Alternate leaved butterfly bush) is a survivor.
Years ago when I first started developing my garden, I bought one to go with all the other regular butterfly bushes. I put it in a bed close to the corner of my house. It bloomed beautifully there but soon got too big for the bed.
A move, put it on the extreme end of the garden and it soon took off there as well.
All was good for a few years until other trees started crowding it and it ended up in almost complete shade. The blooms became skimpy or non-existent.
Too big now for a transplant, it had to go!
As an attempt to rescue it, I tried rooting a few cuttings.
One was successful!
This year, it rewarded me with lovely blooms at a tiny height of only about 18 inches!

What a pretty butterfly bush! I am glad you were able to split it successfully.

Thank you Julia. I’m so happy the restart was successful too. This one is so different from regular butterfly bushes. It was really easy to root.♥

Thank you, Jean. I’m happy that it survived too, and doubly happy to see flowers at such a young age.

It’s gorgeous when it’s tall and filled out. Butterflies love it!

I have one large butterfly bush and one that is struggling. David planted two dwarf butterfly bushes, for which I have high hopes.

I have never seen a dwarf one. That would be nice, because they do take up a lot of space in the beds.
