I was fortunate enough to get this shot of the ONLY Monarch of the season on the ONLY bloom of the ONLY Mexican Sunflower in my garden.

Mexican Sunflowers are the Monarch’s favorite flower and I try to have several in bloom when they arrive in late summer. I planted quite a few but the critters cut down and ate all of them but one.

The Monarchs are really late this year since I usually see them in late August.

I am happy to be able to provide at least one meal for this little fellow.

Looks like you were in the right place at the right time Vero! Our monarchs blitzed out of here about a month ago enroute to their winter vacation in Mexico.

This was the only one I have seen. It must be a straggler. I hope it makes it to a warmer place before it freezes.

    Nice shot.
We saw so few monarchs this year. Sad, because we used to have a lot.

Thank you! Yes it is sad. I never see many but usually a half dozen or so. Nothing at all this year until now!
