I don’t remember the exact name of the variety, but they are thornless (a big plus) and grow very vigorously! The canes can easily get ten feet long, and be loaded with large berries.

When I bought the family farm, there were still some vines growing and I have taken good care of them over the years.

I don’t can as much as Mom did, so I give a lot of the berries away to neighbors, and only use a few to make cobblers, and a couple of jars of jam.

They are just starting to ripen and I made our first cobbler yesterday!

We have a backyard with thickets of wild, thorny, and small blackberries. Thus the name, Blackberry Homestead.

Cobblers are so easy to make, and most everyone likes them. We love berries too!

I will make cobblers but mostly with peaches or apples. Berries (except for blueberries) are too rare here. I’m lucky to get them home from the store without eating them all! 🙂

Awwww you should plant some. I bet they would do well where you are.

Our critters eat all our fruit. We have 9 blueberry bushes but rarely get to them before they do. Ditto the apples and pears.

Awww that would be so discouraging!! I lose a few things now and then, but I plant enough to share. lol

Love blackberries! We have the thornless variety. Sadly, though, we only have a few canes left. I may get one handful per season if the wildlife will let me. LOL

Yummy!! We just have the tiny thorny ones here but you have to look in the woods for them. They are already done for the season.

The wild ones ripen here during the last week in July, and on into the first week of August.
