Just so it doesn’t get boring, let’s leave the cave for a bit and go back to the other end of the “Estate”! ((Fancy word, huh!!)) (Grin)

I like Hostas and have a dozen or so! They love shade, so my back yard is the perfect place to grow them. It gets just a bit of morning sun, and is then in shade for the rest of the day.

Krossa Regal.
A smaller nameless one given to me by a garden club friend. She didn’t know it’s name either.
Alba Marginata (on left) and a couple or so of generic ones from the big box store.
Sum and Substance.
Two hostas both adults but quite different.

I don’t have a name for the large one, but the small one is “Gold Edger.

Hostas are pretty and love shade, which I have a lot of. Sadly, they also like moist which doesn’t happen around here. Enjoy yours!

Thank you, and yes those big leaves really slurp up the water!

You have such a beautiful and well-maintained property! You must have lots of help. I’d love hostas, but it’s too hot here I think.

I don’t want to sound boastful, but no one but me touches my lawn and veggies.!My son-in-law does the lawn mowing with the rider mower and a lot of the heavy trimming along the creek, road and etc., but I do all the rest myself.

Well then, I don’t have to worry about you getting enough exercise! I’m sure you do!

Sadly, Max passed away a couple of years ago. I can do a post on him and show you some pictures though. He was a real sweetheart!♥

Your hostas are so pretty. All of your plants look amazingly healthy. I have never had hostas. I see some of them when I am out and about.. They are favorites for a lot of landscapers in my area. I don’t have much shade but have wondered if they would survive in my front flowerbed that gets the morning sun only.

    1. Vero Avatar

Mine get morning sun so they should be ok. They are very easy to grow and come in so many shapes, sizes, and colors.

      1. Mags Win Avatar

Thanks for letting me know that. I will have to give some serious thought to getting some.

        1. Vero Avatar

If we were neighbors I would load you up!!! LOL

Oh, if we only were. I would love it!

I love hostas but so do our deer. They are planted under our deck and are beautiful until mid-summer when there is a deer reunion there. In one night all the beautiful leaves are gone. In another area the former owners had hosta under a maple tree planted 5′ from the foundation. The tree had to come down because of location which made the area sunny. I replaced with Helen von Stein lamb’s ears which doesn’t get stalky flowers. I’ve come to love that as much as hosta and the deer don’t eat them. Your hosta are just beautiful. Hostas are so green and refreshing. Other than the dang deer I didn’t have any problems with it.

    1. Vero Avatar

I have outside dogs so don’t really have a deer problem. I would cry if they ate my hostas. Thank you for the compliment. Lambs ears are pretty too. I don’t have any at the moment. Could you do a post and show some pictures of yours?

I don’t know how to add a photo here but I’ll put on my Sunday post.

The variegated hosta you don’t know the name of ( I don’t either) is my favorite here. I planted some 20 years ago and have divided them many times.

    1. Vero Avatar

I need to divide this one and spread it around a bit. Mine is about ten years old.

They are so beautiful, Vero. I think I mentioned to you last year that I had splurged a lot of money on hostas years ago and the deer destroyed them. They were just gorgeous and healthy just like yours.
I did a reverse search using your photo of the variegated hosta. Its name is “White Ray.”

      1. Vero Avatar

Thank you so much Isabella, for commenting and for letting me know this is you. I’m so sorry the deer got your hostas. That must have been heart-breaking! Thank you for the info. I will check it out.

I love hostas and have them scattered around our yard as well. Even though a lot of mine get more sun than they should…

    1. Vero Avatar

Sun will kill them eventually. I tried to force one to get used to full sun and it died. Reportedly, the whiter they are the more sun they can take, but even my lightest one couldn’t handle it.

      1. Rivergirl Avatar

Maine sun must be different because when we moved here there were giant hostas fully established in basically full sun. The ones I’ve planted under trees have done well, think only one croaked.

        1. Vero Avatar

Wow that’s unbelievable!!! I may try some more of mine. Maybe I just hit a bad luck streak with that one. I never tried it again.
