I don’t particularly like eggplant so I rarely ever grow it.
This year, my growing season has been filled with experiments and trials, with eggplant being one of them.
I started early, with seeds of just an ordinary standard variety of eggplant.
When the temperature warmed enough, I set my first little seedling out in a garden bed, and it was immediately attacked by buggy critters that reduced it overnight into a leafless stem.
Luckily I had extras, so I put one in a pot and pampered it, keeping it away from those gnawing jaws.
A couple of days ago it bloomed, and I was instantly reminded of the fact that it is related to POTATOES! The flower was a very pretty purple, two-inch bloom with orange center parts. It was an exact, but larger, version of the bloom on my potatoes.
(Unfortunately, I got busy and waited too long to get a picture of it, and it has now fallen off.) I had to go looking for a picture to use in the post.
