My back yard is on the north side of the house and gets a little morning sun, but is shady most of the day. I’ve learned what will do well there and take advantage of it.

Currently, Astilbe is the star.

At one time I had four colors, but the white and purple and most of the red have given up and left only the pink to shine. It does a great job though and I love the cotton candy look of the plumes.

Heucheras are another plant that can handle lots of shade. These are around the corner where they get a bit more sun.

The limey green plant on the left is Tradescantia “Sweet Kate”. It’s an unusually contrasty one! The holly bush is “Blue Prince.” (Never has looked very blue)

Back to a view from the Woman Cave. This is not a current picture of my main day lily bed but from a previous summer, and shows what it should look like in about two weeks. (I think that same dirt is still in the bird bath) ((Giggle)) Always something that needs done!

Also not a picture from this year, (they have already bloomed, and now have leaves) my flowering crab apples. The tiny fruit hangs on and makes a nice meal for the robins when they return in the spring.

Pretty! And who says shady areas can’t be colorful. 😉

Thank you Silver. Yes there are some really nice plants that do quite well in shady spots.

Your place is nothing but pure gorgeous Vero. I hope I will be up to starting on planting some pretty blooming plants next spring; I lost my whole yard, grass, plants and all but a few sturdy shrubs and crepe myrtle trees. My grass is just now coming back after six years sod, seed and thousands of dollars. I have not had money to start on replacing plants yet but hope to. I still have three crepe myrtles, two other shrubs and the hydrangea that I planted last year.

I must have missed something somewhere. How did you lose it all. Were you in one of those horrible floods?

The computer crashed and locked up. I did not have them backed up anywhere so in a second they were all gone.

Oh ok. I do remember reading that!!

      Thank you so much.
The veggie garden is almost camera worthy now. Things have been really slow in taking off. I guess I could show you some pictures from previous years. It looks about the same every year.

I love astilbe. I don’t have any here but it was gorgeous at my last house. All beautiful.

They are so carefree, and the foliage looks good all season long after the flowers have faded. Thank you!

I love it too! Such big soft feathery plumes! Almost looks unreal!!

Thank you Annemarie! (My middle name is Marie too) I just guide them a bit and the flowers do the rest.

I bought my first Heuchera 2 summers ago. I have it in a clay pot at the top of my steps so the deer can’t get to it. Yours are beautiful. Love the contrasting colors. Those pink and purple daylilies are so gorgeous. I miss my flower garden of colorful perennials but I greatly enjoy seeing yours.

Why doesn’t my name show up?

        1. Vero Avatar

Check your settings to see if maybe you have it set to private. I am not one to give advice right now, but just hang in there and we will get it all figured out. Some of my friends have been here for years and still have occasional problems.

You’re quite welcome. I hope you like it here and will stay. You don’t have to do much….no pressure at all. That’s what I like about this community.

You’ll have to share a picture of yours when you get all settled in and everything worked out. Don’t get discouraged. This site can be rather quirky at times.

Yikes! I only signed up so my name would be on replies. I really doubt I could put forth the effort to write a daily blog. Plus, I just don’t know what theme would be of interest to anyone.

I’m jealous of all those beautiful colors of day lilies… mine are boring oranges and yellows.

    1. Vero Avatar

It’s amazing how many colors there are now. Go to https://oakesdaylilies.com/ and look at all they sell.

        Damn. That’s a dangerous website!
        😉

        1. Vero Avatar

Tell me about it!!! 🤣🤣🤣At one time I could go through their catalogue and see that I had about two-thirds of what they sold. Now I see that they have added tons of new ones. Time to either toss that catalogue in the trash can……or………

            Or.
