My granddaughter (age 20) was watching over my shoulder yesterday as I was surfing, and a post came up with the wor meringue in it. I pointed it out and asked her to pronounce it.
She thought about it a moment and said, “mare in gue”?
LOL She had obviously never ran across the word before, and the look on her face when I explained it to her was priceless!!!
We had a good laugh out of it. Lemon meringue pie is one of our family’s favorites.
Ah, those silly French and their weird pronunciations of perfectly good letters. There’s a Latin dance called the merengue that IS pronounced close: Mer-ran-gay. Who knew an E instead of an I would make that much difference. 🤣
