Sitting on my front porch this morning admiring my pink dogwood tree that is almost in full bloom, and is prettier this year than I have ever seen it, brought to mind this old song that makes reference to the crucifixion and the dogwood tree, and I wondered if perhaps some of my younger readers may not have heard it.

Pretty! My redbuds are so confused they didn’t bud or bloom this year. I thought maybe the drought got them but lo and behold, they’re leafing out now, after the rains. Who knows? LOL

Great. Maybe they will make a pretty showing after all. Red bud is just starting to come out here.

They normally don’t “bloom” once the leaves appear. We’ll see. At least they’re alive to bud another year!

Have you ever seen a “Forest Pansy” redbud? Our state capitol building has several of them around it, The leaves are burgundy. They are marginally hardy here, but I have been thinking about trying one. They are gorgeous!!

That’s a new one on me. Regular redbuds are indigenous here and the state tree. They’re normally pretty hardy but this year’s weather is beyond schizophrenic. LOL

I have a friend in Ohio who planted a Forest Pansy, and the last I heard it was doing well. I don’t remember exactly what part of Ohio she lives in.

Thank you Jean. I hope you are having a wonderful Easter too. I think we might get rain tomorrow. Grandson Zeke and I put up our “Egg Tree” today. We will take a picture tomorrow if the wind doesn’t blow all the eggs off! lol

I miss southern dogwoods. They don’t do well here, too cold.

Awww that’s sad. They are such a lovely under story tree.

There’s a more hardy northern version, but nowhere near as pretty.

Wow! Thank you, Vera for teaching me this. It reminded me of my saint of a dad, who had a dogwood planted in his front yard. I bet he’d heard the lesson. 🥹
