The drunk raccoon post brought to mind my experience with a Cedar Waxwing. They aren’t seen often here in West Virginia, so finding one sitting in my black raspberry patch was exciting.

I ran for my camera, fully expecting him to be gone when I got back. but he was still there-right where I left him.

He seemed to be ok other than a few feathers out of place, but he was not in the least disturbed by my presence, and sat there while I snapped many pictures.

I went to the house, got online and did some research (I wasn’t even sure what type of bird it was since I had never seen one before)

A favorite part of their diet is berries and they even eat the spoiling fermented fruit.

Turns out the little sucker was DRUNK!!!

Beautiful image. My sister-in-law shared a similar story about deer “getting drunk” eating the fermented apples from a crabapple tree.

I love cedar waxwings! I don’t see too many here in Ohio but I had tons of them in NY. I had numerous flowering crab trees on my property and they would come and feast on the little sour apples. Beautiful birds 🙂

Today my friend was telling me about robins getting drunk on her berry bush and rolling around the ground before flying off. 🙂 Their version of eggnog!

Thank you River. I was really pleased with the shots I got. He sat there so patiently just inches from the camera.
