An FYI, I think sometimes people leave a message Anonymously if they are not a WP member or not logged into their account. That has been my experience with some of them. Of course, they could be spammers, hard to know. I “think” with WP, people need to be logged in to leave a message, which is unfortunate. Not everyone has a WP account, but they can Google and see our post. At least that’s how it used to be in the past.

Yes they can leave messages or not according to how you have your site set. I am keeping mine open at the time, and welcome comments from friends on other sites. I have let them know it’s ok, but some are still hesitant to comment because of thinking they will be asked for an e-mail. I thought a welcoming message might help.
