This was written several years ago. It is still a fond memory.

The frog who wanted to be prince.
I often title my blogs “Truth is Stranger Than Fiction”.Since today is Valentine’s Day, a day filled with romance and drama and we all have heard of a kiss turning a frog into a prince, I wanted to share my true, real life adventure with a frog who definitely had that gleam in his eye.

I cleaned out a little pond behind my house that had fallen into a sad state of disrepair. I filled it with water and put a comfy chair beside it so I could enjoy the atmosphere.

“Build it and they will come” is very true of frogs in the country!

Soon the little pond was teeming with frogs of all sorts and sizes.

After watching them for a couple of days, I noticed that one frog stood out from all the rest. He seemed to be watching me.
I started talking to him and soon when I would come out to sit by the pond, he would leave the water and climb onto a rock near my chair.

Day by day he kept getting braver and closer and soon I was able to lightly touch the top of his head with the tip of my finger.
At this point, I got my camera and took many pictures of him, with no need for the zoom lens. I took several shots with the camera almost touching his head.
This went on all summer.

One day I was late going out, and when I got to the pond, I found him sitting in my chair! The look on his face was priceless.

As winter came along he disappeared and I never saw him again.
This was twelve years ago and I still can’t walk by that pond on a warm, sunny day without looking for my unusual admirer.

I read this before and loved it the second time, too. I’m relieved my memory still seems relatively good.

My memory is good too. I often do duplicate posts though, because I have been on social media so long, and been a member posting on so many different sites, that it is just impossible to remember all the whats, whens and wheres!!! LOL

What a sweet story, Vero. Wild life is amazing. When we talk to them some love it and will come near.

Thank you, Maggie! This past summer I had a little fawn coming to me until Mama snorted at him from the edge of the woods. He quickly scampered back to her.

From what I have learned from reading your posts I think you live in a place that I would love. I enjoy being near and interacting with wildlife.

My farm is about four miles off the main highway on a one-lane country road. I own both sides of the road, and there is a small stream in the middle. Of the 52 acres, about ten is flat and cleared, the rest wooded. We have a variety of wild life, with the largest being deer and an occasional black bear.
My yard and garden area is long and narrow. I grow lots of flowers, shrubs, trees and foliage plants, and a small veggie garden. (about 20×40.)

A perfect place, just the kind I like. Where I live once was like that, but they kept clearing out trees and putting in homes and now it is a city. If were younger I would move to a place more like yours. I have lived here 53 years. When we bought our land there was less than ten people in the area. Since they made it a city there are now over 4000 here.

I’m so sorry. I would really hate that too. Our nearest small town is 30 miles away. Hopefully I can live out my life before the city catches up to me!😉👍🏻

I had a pond at my last house and it was loaded with frogs. They are so much fun. Some had distinctive markings so I could tell them from the rest of the pack.

I think it’s just amazing that you can go out and dig a little hole, line it with vinyl and fill it with water, and before nightfall some frogs will have found it! I have three small ones right now.
