To all you chocolate lovers out there, (and who doesn’t love thick gooey chocolate frosted confections) if you haven’t already had this cake, you should!

It is super easy and wonderfully satisfying when that sweet tooth gets a craving!

This is a recipe that was given to me way back when I was a Junior Women’s clubber, and it is my very favorite way to enjoy chocolate cake. It is a moist, fudgy dessert, that is more like a brownie than cake.

INGREDIENTS for CAKE

2 sticks butter or margarine
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine margarine/butter, cocoa and water in saucepan., and bring to a boil over low heat. Remove from heat, and add flour, sugar and salt. Mix well and add eggs, sour cream, soda and vanilla. Again, mix thoroughly.

Pour into a greased 9×13 pan, and bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.

Remove from oven and leave in pan. Frost immediately.

FROSTING

1 stick butter or margarine
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 pound confectioners sugar
6 tablespoons milk
1 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine margarine/butter, cocoa and milk in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add sugar, nuts and vanilla. Mix well and immediately pour over cake.

Let cool, and enjoy!!!😋😋

That does look yummy, Vero. I would not be able to enjoy it though. I have to have gluten free.

Thank you. I was dressed up like a granny for a children’s play. That was many years ago.

I have a witchy one I may use when it gets closer to Halloween. I was the resident witch complete with cauldron and all, at an elementary Halloween party.

What fun that must have been. I bet the children loved it. I will be looking forward to seeing your witchy cake.

I had a plastic lizard and would ask each child if they wanted one in their drink…told them it was free… you should have seen some of the expressions!! lol Priceless!

I just brought my laundry in off the line and am in the process of putting it away!

Oh, I wish I could have a clothesline. They are not allowed in our little town.

Awww that’s too bad. I don’t line-dry everything, usually just sheets and a few of my personal clothing items.

Well, this looks delicious Vero, but I am not a baker – I live by myself and eat very little sweets, but I can admire this cake and enjoy it vicariously, although I pretty full from admiring Anne’s biscuits made from your recipe. 🙂

Maybe just a wee slice! A “crack” as my late Mother in Law used to call it! lol

I like that idea Vero. My mother used to cut a pie and she’d “claim” she needed to even out each of the slices with no ragged edges. Well that was her story and she was stickin’ to it, so that pie might disappear pretty quickly that way! 🙂

Ok! Thanks!!! I will definitely try it. I don’t drink a lot of pop any more either. At one time I had to have my Pepsi every day.

You’re speaking my language, girl! Texas sheet cake is one of my very favorite desserts. I have started substituting the cup of water for a cup of Dr. Pepper. It was a recipe I found in a Taste of Home magazine. Makes it that much more moist and yummy 🙂

OOH using soda would really be different. I have seen it used in various cakes but have never tried it.
Question: Do you still bring it to a boil?

Yes you bring it to a boil but you have to keep a close eye on it, lol. I have also seen 7UP cakes but have never made one. I don’t really drink pop but I love the idea of baking with it 🙂
