A few years ago, I had many lovely lilies growing in my garden. Some were fairly new purchases, and some were heirlooms that were older than me.

THIS POST IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

Stargazers and tigers

I ordered the lily “Casa Blanca, and when it bloomed , I found something else had been substituted.
The new lily was very impressive, and I had no idea what the name of it was, but it was certainly NOT Casa Blanca!

Casa Blanca

The following winter, our area was inundated with an invasion of voles, a critter not common to this location. They tunneled all over the yard and ate every lily bulb that they found…even the antique ones that had been growing here for 50+ years.

The next spring nothing at all showed up! I was heartsick.
The following year, a couple of tiny sprouts came up, obviously from some bulblets that had somehow managed to escape the voracious vole munching.
A couple of years went by and this year one of the bulblets was mature enough to produce two buds.
Yesterday, the first bud opened , and………LO and BEHOLD, it was the big white one!! ♥♥♥♥♥
