A few years back, I decided to make a little pond in my back yard. I  dug out an appropriate sized hole, bought and installed a liner, and filled it with water.

“Build it and they will come”… fit the occasion perfectly!!

It was soon VERY occupied!

I put a comfortable chair beside it, and it soon became my favorite spot to sit, whiling away the hours, watching and listening to the frogs.

When I approached the pond. all the frogs would  jump into the water and hide (normal activity for frogs).

Then I started noticing one frog that was the last to leap. Before long,  instead of hiding, he started swimming to the side of the pond nearest me and looking directly at me.

Soon when I sat down in the chair, he would swim towards me and climb out of the water onto a rock beside my chair.

I started talking to him, and tickled his nose with a long grass blade. He would snap at it and try to catch it.

I got bolder and  tried petting him. He actually let me touch the top of his head with my finger tip. He would duck down just slightly but never jump away.

I got some really good pictures with my camera just inches from his head. (This is not  a zoom shot. The camera was actually that close)

One day, I was a little late going out. I guess he got tired of waiting and when I got there he was sitting in my chair. (Just look at that expression in his eyes)

We shared many happy hours by that little pool, and then winter came.

I never saw him again and it made me really sad.

I had a friendly frog this spring, but after a few weeks he went away. Mine was never as friendly and responsive as yours.

That is the only time in my whole life that I have had that happen. It was so mysterious, how he was obsessed with me. I could pet his head with my finger tip and he would just duck down slightly, but not run away. It was that way for weeks!

They often winter over in the pond. Maybe he found better waters.

I always hoped that was what happened to him. Frogs do move around here between the creek and a large pond on the neighboring farm.
