Back during my dating years, a movie came out – “Imitation of Life”. The gist of it was that a light skinned girl of color left home and turned her back on her family to live her life as white. After many years, she realized her loss and returned home to find it was the day of her mother’s funeral.

As Mahalia Jackson was singing the funeral song there wasn’t a dry eye in the theater and sobbing could be heard all over.

The guy I was with was a clown, and just out of the blue he said loudly, “Her mouth reminds me of a catfish I caught once!!!”

The whole theater roared with laughter and I felt like crawling under the seat!! LOL

I still laugh when I think about it and that was 50+ years ago.

I don’t remember that part of the movie, but I do remember it was one of my favorite movies back then . … What a weird thing for the guy to say, loud enough for everyone to hear. Glad they thought it was funny. 🙂

LOL Mahalia was singing at the funeral, and she did have a rather large mouth. He didn’t mean it to be racist at all and would said the same thing no matter what her race was. He was 17. 🙄😝

OMG…I would have smacked him. Thankfully they laughed and didn’t yell. I would have been more embarrassed by that I think.

Things were different back then. He was just a 17 year old boy doing his best to defuse a very emotional situation. (It worked!!)😂😂😂

I totally get that. I am normally one to give a sarcastic line in that situation, but I normally whisper it not say it out loud 😅
