Sitting on the porch this morning, my mind kept wandering back over the years and stopping here and there to reflect on certain persons that I had crossed paths with.
I have always been a sociable human being and have met over the years, a multitude of people from all walks of life.
Since the invent of the internet , a whole new world of potential friendships has opened up. Social sites provide a medium for those who might otherwise have kept silent and lived limited lives, to present themselves to the world and share their innermost thoughts.
As the main text of our pastor’s sermon recently was “Letting our lights shine”, I immediately thought of my vast array of acquaintances via the computer and the various personalities they portray.
One lady is obviously a loving Christian who has a deep respect for her Creator and a passion for sharing His love with all who know her. She has a sweet, bubbly outlook on life and finds joy in the simplest of God’s creations. Anyone reading her posts can not help but see her “light” shining brightly for all the world to see.
On the flip side of the coin is the lonely, frustrated individual who finds fault with everyone and everything he comes in contact with. No amount of encouragement from friends has any lasting effect on his negative attitude, Most of his pleasures in life stem from either things of a sexual nature, drugs, or putting others down. He is obviously very unhappy and constantly searching for something to fill the void in his heart.
Many other distinct personalities surface from day to day…the alcoholic, the chronic liar, the egotist who can do no wrong and sees everyone he meets as being inept and stupid.
As the technological advancement of methods of contact makes the world grow “smaller and smaller,” we all are drawn closer and closer to a time when privacy will be non-existant and the evils of this earth will touch the lives of all the living.
Have you stopped to consider as you present yourself daily…”How is your light shining out to the world?”
